An Ishgnu
artist from 2005-2007

Influenced
by a number of different musical backgrounds, New City played a
creative blend of alternative indie rock music. Formed in early
September of 2005, New City consisted of Eddie VanBogaert
(Vocals), Greg Mikels (Guitar), Matt Emmons (Guitar),
Andy Maloney (Bass Guitar) and Kyle Cottingham (Drums).
Early versions of the band featured Andy Ayers on drums,
and later keyboard.
The story begins
with what most suppose was known as "The Mike Maloney Project",
a group that included Andy (Maloney), Ayers, Eddie, and Andy's older
brother Mike Maloney, that played primarily Blink 182 covers
and the sort. Mike and the group then parted ways, leaving the gap
for Greg Mikels, who was then starting his freshman (and first)
year at Rochester.
This particular
collection of individuals then began playing in late 2003 as "The
Andy Band", but only played one show (Sparks in the Park
talent show, 2004) before dissolving into "The Buzzkillers",
that inlcuded Johnathan Damery (Bass Guitar) [now with "The
Dowry"] and Tony Colantino (Guitar) [now with "A
Band of Pirates"] but not Andy Maloney.
After playing
a handful of shows in the first part of 2005, The Buzzkillers split
on good terms. The now-experienced collective formed "New
City" in September of 2005, making their debut in November
of that year at Breadstretchers with The Communist Daughters.
This particular arrangement had Andy Ayers on drums, but he moved
to keyboard with the addition of Kyle Cottingham in January of 2006.
Matt Emmons
was added to New City at the end of September 2006, soon after his
arrival at Rochester High. Andy Ayers left the band in February
2007, citing creative differences with guitarist Greg Mikels. New
City dissolved in June of 2007, as band members went different ways
for college.
"New
City served as a memorable creative means for all involved... so
as to say it was certainly worthwhile." - Eddie
VanBogaert
Music is available
on the band's MySpace.com
profile.
